I can't really relate to this song because I've never actively tried to find a relationship with a girl, but that still doesn't mean I don't appreciate how good of a song it is and what it's trying to convey. Most people nowadays are tending to lean towards the "this dudes an incel" and I can certainly see why they'd think that (there's definitely plenty of things to say that and I won't argue if you interpret it this way) But this came out when Incel's and Nice guys weren't really a thing (or at least that big). The story and message I think they're trying to convey is that this dude is genuinely nice but is terrible at reading women / their cues, and that he should just give up trying to fix past relationships that didn't work and "go fishing" as there is plenty of fish in the sea.
